BiVelio vs UiPath: coexist, don't fight head-on
UiPath is no longer «brittle RPA doing screen scraping»: as of July 2026 it is an agentic automation platform, with Maestro orchestrating agents, robots, APIs, people and third-party agents from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Microsoft, plus Process Mining, Agent Builder, document understanding and unified governance. This article documents what UiPath is today from official sources, concedes everything that must be conceded, and puts the difference where it really sits: UiPath provides the infrastructure for a large organisation to build and run automations; BiVelio provides a governed operating model that understands how the business works, identifies what must change, and runs its workflows under human limits. It closes with the strategic warning: if BiVelio drifts into being a generic agent builder, UiPath is an extremely dangerous competitor.
The easiest mistake when comparing BiVelio with UiPath — and the easiest to refute in thirty seconds — is to claim that UiPath «is brittle RPA doing screen scraping» while BiVelio «is AI». As of July 2026 that is false, and anyone running an automation centre of excellence knows it better than any vendor does. UiPath positions itself today as an agentic automation and business orchestration platform, with first-party and third-party agents, process and communications mining, document understanding and unified governance (UiPath, 2026).
So the honest comparison is not «who has agents». It is a question of layer: UiPath provides the infrastructure for a large organisation to build and manage automations. BiVelio provides a governed operating model that understands how the business works, identifies what must change, and runs its workflows under human limits. Everything else follows from that distinction — including the risk, which this article states at the end without decoration.
Method and date note
Every claim made about UiPath comes from UiPath's own product documentation, press releases and investor communications, retrieved in July 2026, and is cited. UiPath figures refer to its fiscal 2026, ended 31 January 2026 (UiPath, Inc., 2026). Whatever is still design intent at BiVelio is written in the future tense and labelled as such. There are no BiVelio customer metrics in this article, because there are no named customers with written permission.
What UiPath is in July 2026 (not what it was in 2019)
In April 2025 UiPath launched its agentic automation platform, introducing Maestro as the orchestration layer, Agent Builder for building agents, IXP for intelligent extraction and a UI Agent for computer use (UiPath, 2025). In September 2025 it extended the set with Maestro Case Management, agent guardrails, content moderation with real-time PII masking, Model Context Protocol support in coded agents, and Unified Audit 2.0 (UiPath, 2025b).

And scale matters, because it changes the commercial argument:
Concentration in large accounts matters just as much: with more than 10,000 customer organisations and 107% net retention, UiPath economics rest on accounts that expand year over year (UiPath, Inc., 2026). Its own annual report names the associated risk: «a limited number of customers represent a substantial portion of our revenue and ARR» (UiPath, Inc., 2025).
And a concession a sceptical investor will look for: UiPath also moved into regulated document work. In February 2026 it acquired WorkFusion and its library of pre-built agents for financial crime compliance — customer screening, sanctions alert review, KYC, transaction monitoring, adverse media — prioritising the cases that need human judgement (UiPath, Inc., 2026a). That overlaps directly with anti-money-laundering territory. Saying so is the only way the rest of this reads as credible.
The real difference: infrastructure to build vs an operating model that already runs

Both sides of that contrast are documented: Process Intelligence mines event logs and simulates automation potential before anything is built (UiPath, 2026d); the BiVelio Brain reconstructs the operation by interview and reading before anything is executed.
UiPath — what gets measured
BiVelio
And now an uncomfortable concession almost nobody makes: UiPath already publishes a KPI called automation rate, per activity, inside its automation-potential analysis (UiPath, 2026d). The name overlaps with Autonomy Rate and ignoring that would be sleight of hand. The difference is not the word, it is the denominator: UiPath's measures what proportion of the activities in a mined workflow is automatable or automated; BiVelio's measures what proportion of cases closes inside authority limits, with evidence. One is technical coverage; the other is delegated authority, measured.
Why the metric is not a detail
An organisation becomes what it measures. If the metric is «robot runs» and «estimated savings», the programme grows by adding robots. If the metric is «share of cases closed autonomously inside authority limits», the programme grows by widening authority against evidence — a business decision, not an engineering one.
The technical axes that hold that difference up
Where the automation acts
Concede first, because UiPath's advantage is real and structural. The literature defines RPA as tools that operate on the user interface of other systems the way a person would (van der Aalst et al., 2018): that is what makes a legacy system with no API automatable at all, and no document-centric architecture solves that problem. UiPath has been there for over a decade — RPA, ScreenPlay, a UI Agent for computer use and API automation where an API exists (UiPath, 2026a) — and was a Leader in the 2025 Gartner Magic Quadrant for RPA for the seventh consecutive year (UiPath, Inc., 2025b).
The cost of that layer is documented too: the bot replays a sequence without understanding the task, and when the screen, the field or the underlying flow changes, it breaks (Syed et al., 2020); the systematic review of the field records the same tension between cheap deployment and costly maintenance (Wewerka & Reichert, 2020). UiPath has invested in mitigating it: self-healing automation is a purchasable component of its platform (UiPath, 2026f).
BiVelio acts somewhere else: on the document and on the case. When a provider updates its portal, what changes is how the document is fetched, not what the document means or the rule that decides whether it qualifies. The cost of change lands in a connector, not in the knowledge of the operation.
The unit of work: queue and transaction vs the case
In Orchestrator the unit is the queue item, which becomes a transaction once processed, with free-form data by default (UiPath, 2026d): an excellent abstraction for deterministic volume — N short, independent, retryable, idempotent units. Maestro adds long-running workflow and case orchestration on top, with stages, SLAs and escalations (UiPath, 2025b)(UiPath, 2026f).
Concession: UiPath already orchestrates long-running cases
It would be false to claim UiPath does not handle cases. Maestro models long-running work in BPMN 2.0, closes cases through stages with SLAs and escalations, routes exceptions to people through Action Center, and allows pause, resume, retry, rewind and skip on live instances, with an audit trail for every step (UiPath, 2026f). Anyone still arguing «UiPath only does tasks» has been out of date since September 2025.
The difference that does hold is where the object comes from. At UiPath the case is something somebody models: drawn on the BPMN canvas and instrumented. At BiVelio the case is the product's native object — a file, a company incorporation, a claim, a due diligence — with its dossier of dozens of documents, its participants, its human tasks, its approvals, its exceptions, its SLAs, per-document validity, its evidence chain and an auditable conclusion that takes days or weeks.
The literature has been naming this distinction for twenty years: case handling was proposed as an alternative paradigm to workflow precisely because flexible, knowledge-intensive work organises around the case data and around what can be done to reach the goal, not around a predefined control structure (van der Aalst et al., 2005); and such work demands flexibility at both design time and run time, with decisions that depend on context and professional judgement (Di Ciccio et al., 2015). Modelling that in BPMN is possible; shipping it already modelled for a notarial incorporation is a different proposition.
Technical governance vs business authority
Mandatory concession, no hedging: UiPath has governance. Automation Ops applies policies by user profile, source control and solution management (UiPath, 2026b); Maestro puts policy, audit and human oversight at the orchestration layer, «expressed once and applied across every agent, bot and step» (UiPath, 2026f); there are agent guardrails, content moderation with real-time PII masking and Unified Audit 2.0 (UiPath, 2025b). Anyone claiming UiPath does not audit is lying.
The argument to make is about the nature of the control, not its existence. Governance on an automation platform is primarily technical: who deploys, into which environment, with which version, with which credentials, under which data policy. BiVelio's governance is tied to the business meaning of each decision:
- an agent may draft a deed but may not sign it;
- it may approve an invoice up to €1,000 and must escalate above that;
- it may share a document with one named provider but must anonymise it before sending it to an LLM;
- if it detects a regulatory exception, it stops the case and assigns it to a named person.
That is not a permission list: it is role + workflow + policy + risk + authority + evidence + approval as a single configuration unit. The European AI Regulation points the same way when it requires deployers to assign human oversight to natural persons with the necessary competence, training and authority (European Union, 2024), consistent with AI risk frameworks (National Institute of Standards and Technology, 2023). Oversight is only real when the threshold is expressed in business units and the decision stays reconstructible (Wu et al., 2022).
And what BiVelio does not guarantee
The guarantees page publishes it before anyone has to ask: the obliged entity's responsibility cannot be delegated, BiVelio issues no legal conclusions, and it is not certified against ISO 27001 or ISO/IEC 42001 — what exists is SOC 2 Type II compatible infrastructure, which is not the same thing. The EU AML framework keeps customer due diligence and beneficial ownership verification with the obliged entity (European Union, 2024a). Any product promising to absorb that is misleading the buyer.
Cost, time to start and who operates the system
On price, the honest move is to state what is published and what is not. UiPath publishes a Basic tier from $25/month; Standard and Enterprise tiers, Test Cloud, unattended robots, agent calls and self-healing automation all point to sales contact or additional purchase with no public unit price (UiPath, 2026g). There is no complete published price list, and that is why this article does not estimate the cost of a programme.
What can be documented is the shape of the cost. UiPath defines a Robotic Operating Team with nine named roles — sponsor, champion, change manager, business analyst, solution architect, developer, infrastructure engineer, supervisor and service support — each with dedicated training (UiPath, 2026c). That is not a flaw: it is what governing hundreds of automations in a corporation requires. But it is an organisational structure that has to be created, staffed and amortised.
A literal count of the roles each vendor names in its own documentation, not a quality judgement. UiPath's nine are the ones its centre-of-excellence guide lists for a corporate programme; BiVelio's «1» is a design decision: the intended operator is the practitioner in the firm or the back office, with a human approver at the authority thresholds.

The two prices are not comparable, and saying so is part of the argument: $25/month is the entry tier of a platform whose real cost depends on robots, consumption and services that are not published; €390/month is a product price with closed scope. The valid comparison is not the rate, it is the shape of the commitment: a horizontal programme sized by consumption and headcount, versus a subscription with scope defined per vertical.
«Couldn't UiPath just build the same thing?» — Yes, largely
This is the sceptical investor's question, and dodging it would be the worst mistake available. The answer is yes. UiPath has capital, distribution, an installed base above 10,000 organisations and a community of more than three million practitioners (UiPath, 2025a), a partner ecosystem, and it already owns agents, RPA, process and communications mining, document understanding, case orchestration, human oversight and unified audit (UiPath, 2026a)(UiPath, 2025b). It can reproduce many individual features, and the WorkFusion purchase shows it will buy verticalisation when that suits it (UiPath, Inc., 2026a).
What therefore CANNOT be the moat
BiVelio's moat cannot be «we have agents», nor «we have workflows», nor «we have human-in-the-loop», nor «we have audit». UiPath has all four, documented and in production in large accounts. Any positioning built on those four claims collapses in the first meeting with an informed buyer.
The defensible moat sits in four other layers:
1. Operational knowledge, not merely context for an agent. The Brain is not a document index: it is a living operational graph accumulating workflows, rules, decisions, exceptions, responsibilities, evidence and outcomes. The value is not retrieving a document by similarity, it is understanding how a case is actually handled, who holds authority at each step, which exceptions recur, what evidence each decision needs and where the AI must stop. It is an asset built by handling work, not by buying licences.
2. Vertical depth. UiPath has to serve every industry; that obligation is its commercial strength and its ceiling on depth. BiVelio can know a notarial incorporation, a real estate file, a due diligence, an insurance claim or a financial close inside out — and each rollout will fatten a reusable catalogue: sector ontologies, reference workflows, specialised Workers, preconfigured agents, authority rules, document controls, recurring exceptions and autonomy benchmarks. That accumulation is the design intent that will make rollout number twenty cost less than the first.
3. Finished product vs building platform. The UiPath customer buys tools to build a programme. The BiVelio customer buys an outcome: «the system will handle intake, verification, follow-up and preparation of your files, leaving the practitioner only the decisions that require judgement». Two different contracts — and the second is only credible if the product arrives with the vertical already modelled.
4. Distribution into an underserved market. UiPath economics rest on large accounts and their expansion — 107% net retention across more than 10,000 organisations (UiPath, Inc., 2026b) — describes precisely where its economics live and where they do not. Between the simple automations of Zapier or Make, bespoke consulting projects and the big horizontal platforms sits a gap: the notary, the law firm, the accounting practice, the brokerage, the two-hundred-person regulated back office with real due-diligence obligations that is never going to stand up a centre of excellence. That is the wedge.
Where UiPath wins, no hedging
If a buyer sits in any of these quadrants, UiPath is the right answer, and this article says so plainly:
- Legacy interfaces with no API. If the real constraint is that the source system is only operable through its screen, desktop automation is the only solution (van der Aalst et al., 2018).
- Very high deterministic volume. Millions of short, idempotent units: the queue-and-transaction model is designed for exactly that (UiPath, 2026e).
- A centre of excellence already built and amortised. If the nine roles exist and the catalogue already pays for itself, changing layer destroys value.
- Breadth as a requirement. Covering finance, HR, IT, supply chain and customer service on one platform, with testing and process mining included, needs breadth rather than vertical depth (UiPath, 2026a).
- Consolidated-vendor requirements. A seventh consecutive year as a Magic Quadrant Leader and a first full year of GAAP profitability are legitimate arguments in a procurement committee (UiPath, Inc., 2025b)(UiPath, Inc., 2026b).
Where BiVelio wins
- Regulated document work that is long and exception-rich. Notaries, law firms, accounting practices, real estate, insurance and back offices with due-diligence obligations. The unit is the case, not the transaction.
- Organisations with no centre of excellence and no intention of building one. The intended operator is the practitioner already handling the file.
- When the deliverable is an evidence package. The product delivers per-document gate status and a reconstructible evidence package: which datum, from which source, under which rule, which model and version, who approved it and when. That is what the rules require the obliged entity to demonstrate (European Union, 2024a).
- When authority has to be expressed in business units. Amounts, document types, jurisdictions, signatures — not environments and package versions.
- When the goal is absorbing volume without adding headcount. And measuring it with Autonomy Rate, cost per case, exception share and cases completed autonomously.

The strategic warning, stated in the body and not in a footnote
This is the paragraph a sceptical investor should demand and that almost no comparison article writes.
If BiVelio drifts toward being a generic builder of agents and workflows, UiPath is an extremely dangerous competitor. On that ground the contest is decided by capital, distribution, installed base, partner ecosystem, connector catalogue, governance maturity and the balance sheet to survive a long sales cycle — and across all seven dimensions UiPath wins with documented margin (UiPath, Inc., 2026b)(UiPath, 2026a). A product presenting itself as «a cheaper UiPath» loses by definition: the same promise with fewer resources behind it.
The defensible position is the opposite one, and it has to be held with discipline: vertical, knowledge-first, outcome-driven and governed. Deep operational knowledge of one kind of document-heavy business, vertical playbooks that ship ready, authority expressed in business units, the evidence package as the deliverable and the Autonomy Rate as the metric. From that layer the relationship with UiPath is not substitution but coexistence — and coexistence is a far stronger commercial position than a frontal war that cannot be won.

Is UiPath still only RPA?
No, and claiming otherwise is a factual error. As of July 2026 Maestro orchestrates first-party agents alongside Anthropic, OpenAI, Google and Microsoft agents, robots, APIs and people; there is Agent Builder, IXP, Process Intelligence, Action Center and unified audit (UiPath, 2026a)(UiPath, 2025b).
So how does BiVelio differ from UiPath?
By layer. UiPath provides the infrastructure for a large organisation to build and manage automations.
